547,774 Candidates Apply As PSC Rejects 84,606
A total of 547,774 Nigerians youths have applied for recruitment into the Constable cadre of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), which has been submitted in the police recruitment portal, closing on Sunday, November 26th, 2023, however, 84,606 applications have been rejected by the Police Service Commision (PSC).
Quest Times gathered that the portal was officially opened by the police on October 15th, 2023.
So far, out of the 547,774 applicants, 358,900 emerged successful, as they have become qualified for the next round of the recruitment process which includes; the physical, credentials, medicals, and strict background checks of the applicants.
This was according to a statement issued by the spokesperson for the Police Service Commission (PSC), Ikechukwu Ani, on Sunday, November 19th, 2023.
Ikechukwu further explained that a total of 84,606 applicants were rejected due to overage, noting that the accepted range for the application is between the ages of 18 and 25.
Furthermore, the spokesperson noted, that Kaduna State maintained its first position, recording the highest number of applicants with 40,272, while adding that Anambra State took the last position with 1,664.
Also, Adamawa State is second with 36,398 applications; Borno State is third with 32,048; Benue State with 31,122 is fourth; Katsina State with 30,202 is fifth; Bauchi State with 30,604 is sixth; while Kano State with 30,004 is seventh.
Additionally, Ebonyi State recorded 2,132 applications which is next to Anambra from the rear, followed by Lagos State with 2,324 applicants. Bayelsa State is fourth from the rear with 2,651 while Abia State has 2,796 and fifth from the rear.
Hence, Ikechukwu quoted the PSC chairman, Dr Solomon Arase, as expressing his satisfaction with the number of applications already received by the police force.
Speaking further, he said the applications showed that Nigerian youths have decided to pursue a career in the Nigeria Police, a development he said augurs well for the “new police we are building”.
Meanwhile, he appealed to the youths in the South-East to be more proactive and change their indifference to police work, emphasizing that embracing anti-government criminal gangs will not lead them anywhere.
The PSC chairman further urged Nigerian youths to be concerned about the country’s security, while telling them to think about what the region would become in the future “as no development can thrive in a terror ravaged communities”.
Arase noted that the PSC, will put in it’s best to ensure that the recruitment is strictly based on defined criteria with merit and justice prevalent throughout the processes.
