The Nigerian Navy ranks and salary structure is a topic which many people are interested in knowing about, especially for those who want to join the Nigerian Navy. The Nigerian Navy Ranks structured according to your level of education and Years of service.

For example, those who joined the Nigerian Navy with BSC or HND are given the rank of sub lieutenant while those who joined the Nigerian Navy with SSCE will be given the rank of Ordinary Seaman. Those that joined the Navy with NCE or National Diploma are given the rank of Seaman as their starting rank.

The Nigerian Navy has a total of 18 ranks, which are divided into two categories just like the Nigerian Army Ranks. The commissioned officers and non-commissioned officers. The commissioned officers are those who joined the Nigerian Navy as a graduate or those who joined the Nigerian Navy through the Nigerian Defence Academy, while the non-commissioned officers are those who joined the Nigerian Navy with SSCE, NCE or ND. The salary structure of the Nigerian Navy is structured in a way that the higher a person’s rank, the greater their income. The government of Nigeria pays the salaries of the military, including the Nigerian Navy. In addition to their basic salary, Navy officers receive a number of allowances, some of which are specific to the branch of the military in which they serve.

According to the Nigerian Navy, an officer in the lowest rank, which is the Ordinary Seaman, earns a monthly salary of N50,000. This salary is subject to change at anytime by the government. The highest-rank officer, which is the Admiral, earns a monthly salary of N1,858,595.

Warrant Chief Petty Officer is paid N155,655 Monthly

Chief Petty Officer Collects N120,572 monthly

Petty Officer is paid N90,254 monthly

Leading Seaman earns N72,659 monthly

Able Seaman Collects N68,850 monthly

Seaman is Paid N58,005 monthly.

Ordinary Seaman earns N53,851 monthly

Trainee is paid N10,220 monthly.

Nigerian Navy Allowances

Clothing Allowance: ₦10,000 per year

HouseRent Allowance: up to ₦30,000 per month

Transport Allowance: up to ₦10,000 per month.

Operation allowance up to ₦75,000

Apart from salary, officers in the Nigerian Navy benefit from other incentives, such as educational opportunities, access to affordable loans, and opportunities to acquire essential skills. Officers in the Nigerian Navy also benefit from health and dental care plans that are provided by the military. They also have access to a pension scheme so that they can save for retirement.
